In the past few months it seems little attention has been given to the 2009 Acura MDX. Acura has been focusing all of it’s attention on upgrading the TSX,TL, and an overhaul of the RL. Because of this, the MDX is not going to be a whole lot different in 2009. I personally think that the extra attention given to the rest of the Acura fleet is a much needed action. The MDX is probably alot closer to what it should be than the rest. After all in 07 the MDX was very closely compared to the Mazda CX-9 which later won “Sports Utility Of The Year“. So the MDX as it sits can’t be all that bad.
Enginee -Performance and Powertrain
The 2009 MDX will still be propelled by a 300 horsepower 3.7 Liter V6 boasting 275 lb-ft of torque. The mandatory automatic transmission is still 5 speed and the fuel economy 15/20 miles per gallon (city/highway). The fuel economy is not very impressive, but the fact that the vehicle is equipped with Acura’s own brand of high tech AWD adds a little comfort.
MDX High Tech AWD (All Wheel Drive)
Acura’s all wheel drive system is very impressive, and I like that it comes standard on the MDX in 2009. The system is electronically controlled and capable of dispursing the available power to any number of wheels as needed. All the way up to 100% to one wheel. Now that’s impressive, especially for those unusually sticky situations where one side of your car is on solid ground and the other in slimy much with no traction.
Handling The Independent Suspension And 13 inch Brakes
Handling for the MDX can be attributed to the “Nurburging-Tuned” 4 wheel independant suspension equipped standard in 2009. Setting up the suspension this way allows for a more comfortable ride, and can help ease the stomachs of those “car sick” types. The car is equipped with sizable 13 in solid disc brakes, ABS, and Brake Assist which automatically applies full brake pressure in situations where quick braking is necessary.
2009 Interior
The MDX can seat 7 passengers, and there are 3 seperate climate zones to give each passenger as much temperature comfort as possible. The drivers and Passenger seats are all power and the audio system is powered by a 253 watt internal amp with in dash six disc changer and WMA/MP3 playability. XM Radio is also ready.
Other Upgrade Options (Audio,GPS Navigation)
If the standard audio components aren’t good enough for you, then you have the option to upgrade to the Elliot Scheiner 410 Watt 10 Speaker system. You also have the option to upgrade to the “technology package” whish will give you the GPS Navigation system, satellite phone and traffic system, and power tailgate. The addiition of the power tailgate system to the package is new for 09.
There is also an entertainment package that includes rear-seat DVD system, heated seats in the back and a houshold traditional 115-volt power outlet.
