The 2001 Acura MDX Touring model was powered by 3.5 liter V6 engine that produced 240 hp of power at 5300 RPM. Although very similar to standard models, the touring edition offers additional features and adds to the already impressive vehicle.
It was mated with 5-speed automatic transmission. With the powerful engine, the vehicle could achieve fuel economy of 17 miles per gallon in the city premises, while it achieved 23 miles per gallon on the highway roads. The vehicle is definitely a good balance for a mid sized SUV, in terms of fuel economy.
Main Attractions of the Acura-MDX Touring
The main features that attracted customers towards the 2001 Acura MDX Touring model include huge cargo and passenger room provided in the model. The passenger seating capacity of the 2001 MDX Touring model was 7, impressive compared to the SUV’s size. Power to the front wheels was translated from the standard variable torque management four-wheel drive. Such capability in drive train can allow superior off road performance, and still maintain a smooth and enjoyable ride on the street.
Standard Features
The standard features provided in the 2001 Acura MDX Touring model include, heated power front bucket seats, leather upholstery, front side air bags, CD player, power sunroof, rear air conditioning, 17 inch alloy wheels and heated mirrors. Most noted features are included with the standard model, but the Touring model includes the CD player and a few additional features.
The Interior
The only problem of note for the vehicle is it’s somewhat lacking in third row space. The third row is capable of supplying enough room for children, perhaps even small adults. Even so, it doesnt provide the most notable amount of room. If the third row seat is folded back, the interior cargo space is increased dramatically; up to 43 cubic feet of cargo space. Even more so, the second row may be folded, increasing the cargo space up to 84 cubic feet. Certainly an impressive amount of space for a mid-size SUV. Such interior design surely allows the MDX touring the ability to have the edge over it’s competition.
Safety and Optional Features
The optional features provided in the 2001 Acura MDX Touring model include, 6-disc in-dash CD changer, driver’s mirror/seat memory, navigation system with dashboard screen and roof rack. The second and third row seats in the model were provided as standard feature in the Odyssey model. The third row seats were fold-able so as to provide extra cargo space at the rear side.
The safety features in the 2001-Acura MDX Touring model include, Anti-lock braking system, electronic stability system, front side air bags, curtain side air bags and traction control. The addition of these systems adds to the safety rating to give passengers the safety they need.
